The 5th annual Tomato Fiesta held by the Soil King was a great example of how connecting local products, local growers, and local entertainment fosters great connections. Companies and growers from all over the state came in to show off their products, salsas, giant pumpkins, and prized tomatoes. Entertainment and libations included live music and beverages, as well as local food vendors!
The Tomato competition included the standard “Biggest” and “Best Overall” Categories, with some uniquely tomato themed categories like “Weirdest Shape”. Competitors were also judged on a unique aesthetic category of “Prettiest Slice” showcasing the unique variances between different tomatoes.
Competitors in the Giant PumpKING and Salsa Competitions competed for the sole trophy in the category, and the one crowned PumpKING wins a grand prize of 1000$. Many of the contestants are local farmers who have a passion for growing big with great products that they get at the home of the Soil King, the Soil King Garden Center, in Cloverdale. If you’re a gardener in NorCal, be sure to check out these competitions next year!
Our team had a great time at the booth talking to fiesta attendees, and even a little rain couldn’t stop the fiesta! Scott and Will were on board educating customers on our new Organic Dry Fertilizer, Geoflora Nutrients, and the benefits of using GeoPot fabric pots with organic fertilizers to create living soil webs. We also brought customer favorites like Terpinator and Green Planet Nutrients for all to try!
Just in time for harvest season, we also brought out our top assortment of harvest accessories and customer favorites, like our Dry Racks, the Harvest More Trim Bin, and one of our newest best-sellers, the TrimBag!
We had an amazing time at the 5th Annual Tomato Fiesta, and can’t wait until the next one! Be sure to check out @TheSoilKing on Instagram and Facebook, and stop by the Soil King Garden Center to get great prices on GeoPots and more if you are in Cloverdale, CA!

Many irrigation systems can be set with a timer, so water can be applied at the time that’s most beneficial to the plants – usually morning – and for a set period, again saving water and avoiding overwatering.
