Sticky cards to stay one step ahead of infestation

Sticky yellow or blue insect cards are a great way to stay ahead of a potential aphid, thrip, or whitefly infestation before it hits your garden. Insect Monitor Cards, such as those made by FlyWeb, are one of the best systems to track which pests are in the garden.

Aphids on a plant stem

While the FlyWeb Insect Monitor Cards will rid your garden of the insects that become stuck to them, it should be used alongside an insecticide like Guard N Spray if the bugs are getting out of control. FlyWeb Insect Monitor Cards are used to identify which insects are chewing up your plants, and will give you a good idea of how much of an infestation problem there may be.

Yellow sticky card with insects

Most sticky cards you’ll find are yellow, and this is because It’s been found that many of the insects that are harmful to your garden are attracted to this color. This is most likely because yellow is the color of plants under stress (think yellowing leaves from underwatering), and they know to head towards yellowing plants because their defenses are weakened, making them easy targets. Blue is another color some harmful insects are attracted to, more likely because of the limited range of colors they can see and its’ association with preferred plants or food sources.

FlyWeb Insect Monitor Cards are available in yellow or a combination of yellow and blue; Yellow/Yellow cards are ideal for aphids, whiteflies, and fungus gnats, while Yellow/Blue Cards are ideal for aphids, whiteflies, fungus gnats, thrips, and leafminers.

While a lot of study has been devoted to FlyWeb Insect Monitor Cards and how they can best attract pests, it’s best to keep in mind that their purpose is to monitor the severity of an infestation, by providing a look at how many insects are getting caught in the area during a certain time. While it’s true that this results in plenty of dead bugs, it won’t act as an effective pesticide. If you’re losing the battle to aphids, Guard N Spray is one of the best organic pest control sprays to use. By utilizing food-grade oils, this spray is a safe alternative to traditional chemical insecticides.

Guard N Spray

Carbohydrates play a huge role in how a plant develops - provide building blocks for plant structural components, such as cellulose – which helps grow the cell walls – and they help deliver energy for growth. Besides helping to mimic a plant’s natural carbohydrate profile, Karbo Boost brings an ample food source to plant’s cellular building processes. Growing without soil!? Tupur makes it happen
Growing without soil!? Tupur makes it happen

It may seem counterintuitive to suggest that a gardener forgo soil completely for their grow, but here are some of the problems a professional horticulturalist may have with soil…

For professional growers, their agriculture is what they depend on, so taking a chance on soil that could end up ruining even a portion of their grow. This is where soilless growing mediums come into play for agriculturalists that want to start with a blank slate where they control how much water, and what nutrients, the plants get from germination until harvest. A soilless medium is a mix of mediums like peat, coco coir, and basalt that can be used in a hydroponic system or in pots and is free of contaminants, has great aeration and drainage abilities, and can allow the grower to apply whatever mix of nutrients they feel is right for their crop.
