Enjoy growing your own Reishi mushrooms at home with this liquid culture prepared in-house by Redwood Mushroom Supply! This species thrives on hardwood substrate and is easy to grow entirely in the bag, making it a great place to start growing medicinal mushrooms for their health benefits.
Reishi Mushroom (Ganoderma lucidum)
Reishi mushroom is renowned for its therapeutic properties and has been a staple in traditional Eastern medicine for centuries. It typically grows on hardwood stumps and logs in nature but performs very well when grown in bags. Fruits are highly valued for their immune-boosting and stress-reducing effects and have a bitter taste woody texture, making them more suitable for teas, extracts, and powders.
This Reishi strain is a visually stunning variant, forming numerous deep red antlers when grown in a bag, with the trademark orange, yellow, and white bands towards the tips of the antlers. Growing this strain with more fresh air exchange will yield the “conk” formation, with rich bands of color in less numerous but larger conks. The dried powder makes a great additive to your morning coffee!
Fun Fact: Reishi grown in bags can even be used in your greenhouse or indoor plant grows as a CO2 producer to help support vigorous plant growth!
About Redwood Mushroom Supply (RMS) Culture
All RMS Liquid Cultures are prepared from early-generation slants and plates from their culture bank. These cultures are then expanded into liquid culture using lab-quality inputs, ensuring a vigorous culture ready for further expansion or immediate use.
Each culture is hand packaged in a clean-air laboratory environment, batch tracked, and quality assured to ensure your culture is contaminant-free and ready to use.
NOTE: The growing instructions and predicted yields in the details and technical specifications are based on observations and may vary based on your growing method and environment.

These liquid cultures can be injected directly into a wood-based substrate bag with injection port, or into grain bags/jars for expansion and spawn-to-bulk transfers.
NOTE: Wood-loving species can be added to wood substrates without the need for a grain transfer – to get more mileage out of your culture, inoculate grain and add to your substrates in a still air box or flow hood at a 5-10% grain to substrate ratio.
Storage
For best results, store your liquid culture in the refrigerator until ready to use. If you plan to use the culture within 1-3 weeks, refrigeration is not necessary. When refrigerated, liquid cultures can remain viable for up to 6 months. Do not freeze, as freezing may damage the mycelium. Keep out of direct sunlight and avoid exposure to heat.
Liquid Culture Instructions
PREPARE YOUR ENVIRONMENT: Wash your hands and put on a pair of disposable gloves. Use a laminar flow hood or a still air box for best results. Thoroughly clean your workspace and gloves with 70% isopropyl alcohol.
DISINFECT PACKAGING: Spray syringe and needle packaging thoroughly with 70% isopropyl alcohol.
ASSEMBLE SYRINGE: Remove the cap from the liquid culture syringe and attach the needle, twisting to lock it in place. Leave the guard on the needle until you’re ready to inoculate.
DISINFECT GRAIN JARS OR BAGS: Disinfect items to be inoculated with 70% isopropyl alcohol.
INOCULATE: Carefully remove the needle guard and inject the culture. For best results, use a new needle for each injection or flame sterilize between uses.
For smaller grain jars, use 3-5mL of liquid culture per jar.
For larger bags of grain or wood substrate (3 lbs+) use 10mL of liquid culture per bag.
